The Rest of October 2008

We did some lure coursing this month to make the hounds happy and all of them are running well and earning points towards their titles.

First off...this past weekend Beth Levine of Serendipity Whippets http://www.serendipitywhippets.com/ traveled all the way from Washington to somewhere in Idaho :)  and on Saturday "Ringer" finished his Lure Courser of Merit (LCM)  title! He is now known as Can Ch HH Serendipity Eight Bells, LCM, SR, OTRM-2, TRP, DPC, CGC! He joins his litter brother "Tommy" (MBIF HH Heartland Fame, LCM as the first 2 LCM winners from their litter.  We are extremely proud of Ringer and Beth and all they have accomplished together!

Vickie Smith of Heartland Whippets http://members.aol.com/vjswhippet/  also did some lure coursing out her way and "Marshall" Heartland HH What Women Want, Fch, CH Heartland HH Moonlight and Roses "Harley", and Heartland HH McLaren Longtail "Aren" all earned more points towards their titles both days! AND "Shamu-2" won the Halloween Costume Contest !!! She dressed up as the Sugar Plum Fairy and she also got to run in the trial in the Singles Stake, as she is 11 yrs old now but still loving to course!

At our trials here in Brooksville, Florida...."Andy" HH Heartland Hall of Fame, JC finally made his ASFA debut and earned a 1st and a 2nd! Bo (BIF Heartland HH LeBlanc Mirabeau, FCh and Amber (CH Windsong HH Sirius Amber Alert, FCh picked up more pts towards their LCMs with Amber winning BOB on Sunday! Greyhound "Rita" JL's HH Rita Skeeter earned a 2nd and 1st/BOB towards her FCh.

And last but certainly not least...We traveled up to beautiful Moreland, Georgia this past Saturday for the ASFA National Greyhound Lure Coursing Specialty.  It was held at the Bear Creek Hounds Farm http://www.bearcreekhounds.com/ and it was a wonderful experience.  Beautiful field and a well run trial with all the "Extras" to make it a very special event. Greyhounds came from near and far with some coming from as far away as CA, TX, CO ! There were some great running greys competing and it was fun to see the Windrock dogs  and especially their handsome black Sobers export "Ippolito"who won the Match.  Rita had an especially great day and won the huge open stake and went onto win BOB! Not bad for our little red girl who won't even turn 2 until January! The trophies were awesome and we left the perpetual ones she won up there as we didn't want a whippet chewing on one or knocking one off a table-they will be safer in Georgia awaiting next years winners! Hopefully the photos of them will turn out and we will post them here!

Until next month,  Have a very MERRY THANKSGIVOWEEN ! ! !

On an incredibly sad note we mourn the passing of dear friend Julane White last night after a lengthy illness.  She was a tiny dynamo full of fun with a heart of gold who was always so generous with all of her friends.  This is my favorite picture of her....holding whippet "Ariel" and celebrating with her friend, Jennifer Sawyer, after "Ariel"  (HH Rockette) won the Puppy of the Year Tournament several years ago. She loved her animals and loved competing with them.  She will be terribly missed...but I know that now there is one more angel in heaven taking care of the animals at the Rainbow Bridge...and making her famous cherry chip cupcakes for everyone else !

"I will be walking one day
Down a street far away
And see a face in the crowd and smile
Knowing how you made me laugh
Hearing sweet echoes of you from the past
I will remember you."

WOOOOO HOOOOO ! ! ! ***F O U R*** 5 point majors in 1 week ! ! !
It's been a fantastic week for the hounds!  We traveled up the the AWC Southern Specialty last weekend and "Amber" finished on Sunday at the huge AWC Supported Entry under Mary Beth Arthur "Marial Whippets"  Mary Beth is one of the most well respected breeder judges of whippets in the world and  to finish Amber under her for a big 5 pt BOW major was an huge honor and thrill ! This was Amber's 3rd major...coincidentally, her first major was won exactly 2 years ago at this same circuit when she won BOW for her first 5 pt major at only 6 months of age, under breeder-judge Linda Zaworski "Runamok" whippets.  The breeder judges always seem to be able to find her and we appreciate this. Now Amber is back to lure coursing to finish up her Lure Courser of Merit title. She will be specialed occasionally under breeder judges whose opinions we respect. Here is one of our favorite pictures of her:

We were also very happy that Mary Beth found our 6-9 puppy girl "Skilttles" for 3rd place in a large 6-9 month puppy  class! GOOD GIRL, Skittles!!!  Congratulations to her owner Alice Vesely!

This weekend we let a few of the hounds do what they like to do best and took them Lure Coursing at an AKC trial in Altoona with some impressive  results! On Sat. "Fleur" (JL's HH South Oaks Fleur de la Coeur), JC and "Elmo" whippet finished their JC titles and "Sparkle" earned the first leg of her JC.  "Rita" (J L's HH Rita Skeeter, JC) ran in the open greyhound stake for the very first time and won a 5 pt major!! Her friend "Bo" BIF HH Heartland LeBlanc Mirabeau, FCh was 2nd in a 4  pt. major of whippets and earned 2 pts!

On Sunday, "Sparkle" became Sun Fire HH Faunwood Sparkler,JC !  Fleur joined her litter sister in the big  open greyhound stake and the "Cheetah Girls" finished 1-2 earning Rita ANOTHER big 5 pt. major and Fleur 3 pts!!!  In whippets...Bo won the big 5 pt major so she earned 7 pts her first weekend of AKC lure coursing! Amber ran on Sunday and tied for 4/5th!  Next weekend we have our first GOGLCA ASFA trial of the fall in Brooksville.

The puppies are getting big and are so beautiful. Several have left for their new homes and a couple more will leave this week!  We wish them and their new families all the best!!!

Lots of good things happened in July!!! Up in Canada our beautiful golden girl HH Heartland Glimmering Goldfish "Glimmer" finished her ASFA FCh...the next weekend at the Canadian National Specialty, she and owner Bill Phillips finished her CD with a 1st place!  This team was not finished yet, however, as the next day Glimmer was WB and BOB in the altered competition and to complete a PERFECT weekend...Glimmer WON the Triathlon Competition (Obedience, Conformation and Lure Coursing) at the National Specialty!!! We are SO PROUD of this amazing team especially since Bill handles Glimmer himself after having had both hips replaced! CONGRATULATIONS again to Bill and Jerri Phillips and Glimmer! Look at the photos taken at the Canadian National on the EWhippetzine!! http://www.ewhippetzine.com/cannat08page1.html

And our long awaited litter was finally born on July 13-14th!12 puppies via frozen implant.  They never told me that you ordered these "Puppsicles" by the dozen! But everyone is doing well...the puppies are all fat and healthy...7 boys and 5 girls....7 white and red/fawns and 5 white and red brindle. They are starting to open their eyes and hopefully we will have some "Cute" pictures of them soon!
